As many as 16 teams from all over the country, including six teams who are participating in the Sahara BCCI Corporate Trophy, have confirmed their participation in the 16th All India JP Atray Cricket Tournament starting from September 17 till 30.The six corporate teams are Indian Revenue, ITC Ltd, Air India, MRF Ltd, Indian Oil Corporation and BPCL. Apart from these teams others who will take part in the tournament are Reliance and All India Electricity Sports Control Board. Punjab will field two teams- PCC and PCA Colts, while Cricket Association of Bengal, Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association, Indian Railway and Madhya Pradesh XI constitute the state teams. Two local outfits LIC Cricket Club and MACC are also taking part in the tournament.
PCA Stadium, Mohali, Sector 16 Stadium, Chandigarh and Sector 3 Stadium, Panchkula will hold the matches, while some matches will be played at DAV School Sector 8 and Government School, Sector 26, Chandigarh. The final match- a day and night affair- will be played at PCA Stadium, Mohali, and shown live on Doordarshan. Only players and officials registered with BCCI or its affiliated units are eligible to participate in the tournament. The matches will be of 50-overs duration. While the day matches will be played with SG Test red balls, the Day and Night final will be played with SG white cricket balls and with coloured clothing. The teams have been divided into 4 pools, and top two teams from each pool shall qualify for the quarter finals. There will be a play off for the third and fourth position amongst the losing semifinalists. There will be 32 matches in all.
The notable players taking part in the tournament are VRV Singh, Manpreet Gony, Gagandeep Singh, Pankaj Dharmani, Uday Kaul, Yashpal singh, Wasim Jaffer, Rajesh Pawar, Cheteshwar Pujara, Ajinkya Rahane, Ravinder Jadeja, Parthiv Patel, Shikhar Dhawan, Saurab Tiwari, Ambati Rayudu, Ashok Dinda, Ranadeb Bose, Reetinder Singh Sodhi, Mohammad Kaif, Amay Khurasia, Dheeraj Yadav, Rajat Bhatia and Pankaj Singh.
