Chandigarh, September 16 With top stars gone for the Twenty-20 World Cup in South Africa, and the second string busy with the India A-South Africa A series, you could have still hoped that the 14th edition of JP Atray Memorial Cricket tournament will attract some of the domestic stars. However, with the Indian Cricket League lapping up most of them, this will be one of the weakest line-ups yet in this prestigious tournament which gets underway tomorrow at different grounds of the tri-city.

The opening match will be played between Canara Bank (Bangalore) and Himachal Pradesh Cricket Academy at 9.00 am at DAV School-8. In the second match of the day LIC Cricket Club and Air India (Mumbai) lock horns at the St. John's School-26.
The teams had practice sessions at different grounds here.

Like some other states, Punjab will use this tournament as an opportunity to check out whatever talent is still left in their cupboard. Eleven players from the state, including Dinesh Mongia, Reetinder Sodhi, Amit Uniyal, Bipul Sharma, Rajesh Sharma, Luv Ablish, Ishan Malhotra and Munish Sharma joined the 'rebel' ICL league, thus inviting a ban from the Punjab Cricket Association. Obviously this will be a big headache for the new Punjab coach, Gursharan Singh and he will be looking forward to watching the talent.
